Stress is what affects the Cortisol Hormone.  The more stressed a person is the higher their cortisol level.Cortisol is also the only hormone that increases with age. 

When Cortisol is increased, glucocorticoide activates which is where the glucose cravings come in.  As the body’s glucose levels increase, the pancreas will secrete more insulin to help to reduce the glucose levels.  This causes weight to be gained in the midsection. 

Optimal Cortisol Levels will be higher in the am and decrease as the day progresses.  If the Cortisol Level is low in the morning, it is a sign that you are not sleeping well.
